KEY 1: Recognize that you must stop drinking, and using drugs (sex, food, gambling, etc.). Acknowledge and accept that you cannot control these fleshly desires with your own power. Also, drugs and alcohol usage is more than a sickness or disease, but sin and rebellion against God. (I Cor. 3:16-17; 6:9, 10, 19-20; Eccl. 7:29; Rom. 3:23; Matt. 1:21; I Sam 15:23; Rev. 21:8) KEY 2: Learn to believe that God can and will help you live an addictive free life style through Jesus Christ. (Phil. 2:9; 4:13; Gen. 18:14; Ps. 46:1; Rom. 10:13; Jude 24; Joel 2:32) KEY 3: Make a firm commitment to let God have complete control over your life through the dictates of His Word. (Matt. 4:4; 6:24-34; Rom. 6:16; Josh 24:15; John 4:23-24; 14:23; James 1:6B-8) KEY 4: Mentally examine yourself and on paper list ways you can change your alcoholic and drug addictive behavior pattern and do it. (I Cor. 11:28; Ps. 139:23-24; James 2:12; Rom. 12:1-2; Eph. 4:17-29; 5:4; John 11:41-44) KEY 5: Pray to God in the name of Jesus for strength to help you confess your faults to others. (John 16:23-24; Ps. 29:11; 32:1-4; James 5:16A; Acts 4:12; Isa. 40:29-31) KEY 6: Praise Him and thank God continually for helping you remove these challenges and to grow in the knowledge of Him. (Phil. 4:4; Eph. 5:20; Isa. 40:40) KEY 7: Forget the past and make a firm quality decision to change your playmates and playground. (Ps. 1:1-13; I Cor. 5:11; 15:33; Isa. 43:18; Phil. 3:13) KEY 8: Confess your deliverance to someone everyday over the addiction problem. Acknowledge that you are a new person in Christ daily. (Never say, "I am a recovering alcoholic or drug addict") (I Cor. 6:9-11; II Cor. 5:17; I Peter 1:23; Prov. 6:2, 18; Rom. 8:37) Examine yourself on a daily basis to see if you are being a doer of the Word and not just a hearer only. (James 1:22) KEY 9: Write down all those you have harmed and prepare yourself to make restitution. (Luke 19:1-10; Matt.5:23-24; Acts 9:1-6) KEY 10: Make restitution whenever possible without hurting others. (Luke 6:31; 15:11-32; Ps. 5:12; Matt. 28:20) KEY 11: Allow Jesus to fill you with power of the Holy Ghost and continue to be built up in God's Word, the Holy Bible. This will help keep you free from the bondage of drugs and alcohol. (Matt. 12:43-45; Eph 5:16-18; Luke 4:1) KEY 12 A: Once you have walked in total deliverance over the addiction problem for 12 months, do not return to abusing, but share your testimony with those who are suffering from alcohol or drug abuse and continue to act on the Word of God. (Acts 1:8; Luke 22:32; Mark 16:15; Rev. 12:11) KEY 12 B: THIS IS THE KEY TO REMAINING FOREVER FREE OF DRUGS AND ALCOHOL. JOHN 8:31B-32: "If ye continue in My word, then are ye My disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you FREE." Supplemental Scriptures: Ps. 124:8 Josh. 1:8 James 1:25 |
